As part of our commitment to assist with the development of medical
services within the countries in which we operate, Medilink organises
programmes of visits for specialised medical teams from European
hospitals to North Africa and the Middle East to undertake surgery
on local patients, subject to any local laws and regulations.
Teams from a variety of medical areas are organised including
ophthalmology (particularly corneal grafting), orthopaedics, cardiac
surgery (adult and paediatric), and neurosurgery. In fact a number
of visits in these areas have been organised to both public and
private hospitals, and a large number of patients have been treated
successfully without having to leave their country.
Continuity is vital to the success of these visits and a schedule
of visits covering a period of about one year is therefore usually
agreed upon with the hospital. This ensures that a team visits
the country every two to three months, thus following up on previous
patients and also providing regular training to local staff. These
links also facilitate access for doctors to training courses in
Europe.
