Remote Area Medical Services

The setting up and management of remote area medical facilities is one of Medilink’s major areas of strength. Sub-contracting of site medical services to a specialist company is a proven way of ensuring quality medical care in a cost effective manner. Medilink’s Medics are responsible for the health of every person on site – nobody is more qualified or experienced to do that.

Our list of clients includes oil and gas industry companies, both offshore and onshore, and construction companies. The service consists of the following units each of which can be provided independently.

Medical Audits

A medical audit will identify the real medical hazards of a workplace and will determine the level of medical support to be provided. This will ensure that the budget allocated to medical support is used in the most cost-effective manner. By identifying the real hazards, steps can be taken to avoid or eliminate them, thus reducing the number of work related injuries and health problems.

Our medical audits evaluate and determine the following:

• Potential hazards

• Safety of the workplace

• Medical facilities on site

• Support medical facilities in the area

• Transportation means

• Communication means

• Record keeping

• Evaluation of Emergency Response Plans

Planning

Based on information given on the location and accessibility of the site, nature of the work to be undertaken, the number of personnel on site, the duration of the project and the local medical infrastructure available, Medilink will plan the medical facilities required.

These plans include:

• Plan the level of medical care which needs to be provided on site

• Design of the medical facilities

• Recommendations on the appropriate level of staffing and relative job descriptions

• Equipping Schedules

• Medical Consumables Inventories

• Pharmaceuticals Inventory

• Planning of Referral Procedures to local medical facilities

• Planning of procedures for Emergency Evacuations

The formulation and preparation of health management documentation forms an integral part of any company’s medical procedures. No remote medical site can function effectively without a set of Standard Operating Procedures and Intervention Procedures.

Medical Evacuations

Medilink’s Alarm Centre based in Tripoli can organise and monitor evacuation of any patient from even the remotest part of the desert. With our fleet of aircrafts and jets we can successfully get you from the scene of the accident to the hospital in the shortest time possible. Our staff is highly trained in this aspect and have acquired extensive experience.

So you cannot be in better hands!!

Recruitment

Medilink’s Doctors, Paramedics and Nurses are all experienced in providing care in remote locations particularly in the oil and gas sector.

Our Doctors are trained and experienced in Emergency Medicine and/or Traumatology. Paramedics and Nurses have up to date training and certification in ATLS/ACLS.

Our staff is all English speaking. Many of them also speak a second language. They are computer literate, have general administrative experience, are strong team players but yet are capable of taking accurate decisions in moments of acute pressure.

They are knowledgeable in remote site communication networks such as satellite and radio.

Above all they are physically fit and have the mental stamina to work in the conditions encountered in remote locations.

Training

We all know and value the importance training particularly for people in the medical and emergency field. The lives of a number of other people depend on them. Refreshing basic knowledge by training courses makes the person more confident of his own skills and therefore less likely to panic. It can make the difference in a crisis.

Particularly in a remote location such as the oil field, the doctor is dependent on other staff for help in emergency situations. Apart from qualified doctors it is therefore important to have on site persons who have been trained in the provision of basic life support in remote locations.

Above all, all persons need to be trained in the basic concepts of health and safety in order to prevent problems. Training is preventative medicine at its most effective.

Procurement

Medilink is able to supply all medical equipment, consumables and pharmaceuticals.

This includes electro-medical equipment, specialist emergency equipment and extrication devices.

The ordering process is managed by our medical equipment specialists and by our pharmacists.

24 hour Emergency Support

Medics on location can always rely on the full support of an experienced medical doctor at base who would be available 24 hours, 7 days a week for consultations on matters relating to management of medical cases and to provide general advice to the remote site operations.
